Rev. Randy Lee Webster

Curate & Director of Music

Rev. Randy Lee. Webster, the Curate and Minister of Music for Christ Church, came to us with more than 25 years of church organist experience. He began playing the organ in a small Methodist church in Iowa at the age of 14. Since then he has played for Lutheran, Presbyterian, Methodist, Episcopal, United Church of Christ, and Baptist churches. He also received a bachelor of arts degree in music from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

After spending a number of years as a restaurateur, Randy felt that his true calling was as a church organist, a position more in keeping with his training and experience. He sold his business and his house and entered the seminary.

He received a master of divinity degree in pastoral music at Bexley Hall in Rochester, NY, in a program considered the first of its kind in the country. This program requires that students take the basic seminary courses for the ministry along with the music courses necessary for his specific degree.

Seminary courses were taken at Bexley Hall, a part of the Colgate-Rochester Divinity School. Music Courses were taken at Eastman School of Music. Randy feels that this combination degree provides the church with a wider range of knowledge, training, and ability.

His approach to selecting music for services at the church is to base his choices on the readings and prayers for the day. He feels that it is important to understand how music functions within the life of the church rather than treating it as a separate entity.

At one time, Randy believed music was to be his principal ministerial calling, but this was not to be. In 2003, he began study at General Theological Seminary, and in October 2005 he was ordained a transitional deacon. The following spring, h

Randy is also very active in the life of the church and works with Father Paul to put together the Carillon, our monthly newsletter. He also works with the Special Events Committee to help organize, plan and implement our various fundraising events.
